        Shelters
Shelters are public places that provide protection, food, and help for people in need. These facilities can be found across the United States, and have been around for many decades now. It is common to find both women and men doing volunteer work in shelters to assist people who are homeless, battered, or victims of natural disasters. These emergency facilities are great places for people to go in a time of need so that they can find some kind of relief. There are many kinds of shelters that assist both people and animals. While one shelter may be for battered women who have suffered from domestic violence and abuse, another one might be more family-oriented and suited for victims of a tornado or hurricane disaster. The goal of animal shelters in particular is to rescue abused and abandoned pets in order to keep them safe and put them up for adoption, whereas homeless shelters provide a place for people to stay and sleep until they are able to return home. When a major fire, flood, or earthquake is involved, this can take some time. Fortunately, for most people, there is likely to be a shelter in your area. A lot more can be learned about homeless facilities, pet adoption, domestic violence shelters, and volunteer work online. In fact, you can find out a great deal pertaining to your area if you choose to. There may even be shelters in your town or city, where you can consult people who work there to learn more.

Shelters are warm, dry, safe places to house stray animals or homeless people. Shelters for humans are also called soup kitchens, rescue missions, refuges, and homeless shelters. Shelters for animals are also called rescue missions and pounds. For help, you can find shelters of any kind by performing an online directory listings search. Other types of shelters can include battered and abused women's shelters, disaster relief sites, and triage centers. Sometimes, makeshift shelters are set up to assist victims of emergency evacuation situations due to fire, earthquake, flood, hurricane, or tornado. Most shelters provide a warm place to stay, extra clothing, a meal, and a place to sleep—all free of charge. Many shelters also provide people with referrals to counselors or social workers after their stay. Shelters and soup kitchens rely heavily on volunteers to help serve meals and show a happy face to people in need. Target your search to shelters that offer what you need, whether for animals, rescue mission, homeless, or abused women and children. You can find out more about shelters and what they provide online. If there is a disaster near you, you can go online to government websites and private centers to learn how you can help and lend a hand with triage, medical services, food distribution, logistics, and general victim and family assistance. There is another way you can help in an emergency or disaster relief situation—give blood. Go online to find out where to donate blood in your community. Or, try volunteering with your family at a soup kitchen on the weekends, or even on a holiday like Thanksgiving.

in response to bugwilly9...   Yr friends son, is severly depressed and thats mental theres help out there, he needs to be evaluated by a phyciatrist, if he lost his job and is on unemployment he can go to a free mental health clinic, i dont know what area ur from so i cant tell u where to go, but if he has no unemployment he needs to go down to PUBLIC ASSISTENCE IN YR AREA, they will give him medical benefits "medicade" and he can get the help he needs!!! i know as i was diagnosed with "severe depression" and felt sad all the time, didnt want to do anything and didnt care, while i wasnt as bad off as he was, i was still hurting and still am, i have my bad days and good days!!! and yes yr appetite does go, but he needs someone to help get him thru, here in newyork we call 311 and they will give u the information for mental health clinics as well as pubic assistence and emergency help!!! u need to talk to a councelor, dont dismiss this!!! this is dangerous he needs help, so call yr local info number and get the information that he needs!!! also if he has any good friends u should talk to them about helping him thru this right now!!!....Good Luck

in response to knockoutmassage00...   I was reading yr post, u have alot of great things going for u!!! first thing u need to do is apply TANF in yr area, they not only will help, but will also help u find a job!!! and will help with daycare, and housing, espeically since u have a child, also for immedaite housing i would suggest posting on craigslist in housing wanted!!! and barter, be honest and say u need a place for u and ur son even its its one room in exchange u will help with cooking, laundry, childcare, housekeeping and anything they need help with!!! .., If u were working on the books, apply to unemployment but the way i read yr post seems like u worked temp on and off, thats fine as long as u worked at least 6 months on the books!!! u can apply no matter what even if u worked temp!!!
and also i would see a legal aide lawyer about child support!!! also go to the agencies if ur licensed CNA and apply.....i know it tough and it sucks, and the waiting in these places and filling out forms but ya gotta do it!!! and listen try and stay positive, we all make mistakes!!! i know i did my share of mistakes and there were times i felt like a real failure, and didnt want to go on, but im Therapy and it has helped me alot!!! i have my own problems dealing with ssi disabilty, but im greatful for the help i get from PA, my small p/t gig (caregiver)
and also im a maseuse and still have 2 regular clients that i see, with the economy my business was effected, the clients that would come 3 times a week started to ebb out then once then nothing, but im still greatful for those 2 regulars, it all helps!!! so do what i tell you, u should be ok!!! by the way im DawnMarie from Brooklyn NewYork!!! So my dear i wish u the best of luck, try to do what i said, and let me know how it goes!!!....dEE
